    Ntl

    Right yesterday my mum came home to find that the Internet was not working, so right I thought power cycle the router and modem should sort this out. Did the power cycle with no success.

    Upon further inspection my router kept trying to refresh the DHCP every 15 seconds, so I thought it might need installing again on my PC and it will pick up an IP and it will be alright to clone my MAC Address to the router again.

    Go to install the software again with just the Cable broadband plugged into my PC and still nothing, its like it just keeps on refreshings its IP lease.

    Anyone else had any trouble with NTL recently?

    this happens to me every 10 months or so.
    When I ring up technical support they patronisingly make me:
    shut everything down i.e. PC;set top box/cable modem and router;
    wait 5 minutes;
    turn on set top box/cable modem;
    wait for the lights;
    turn on router;
    turn on PC.

    Hey presto! Always fixes it.
    Either they are using the time to fix a problem, or I don't turn things back on in the specific order that NTL tech support want me to do.
    I always question the technician and they always tell the order is important, and I always end up feeling embarrassed.
    It's happened at least 3 times to me.
