how about a simple baby guard thing that is kinda like this
but not as pricey, have you thought of something like a baby den around the speakers.

I have my speakers on granit chopping boards and have sort of tied them up using shoelaces that go underneath the chopping board. If that makes sense.
I did it orignally because my cats had knocked the speakers over in there mad races around the house. It works well with the little one too, though i always say no when she goes near them.
well... we need stair gates, as the young un has developed a penchant for shutting doors and sitting behind them so you can't get back in... but the kitchen doors were greyhound-proofed a couple of years back, so that's ok and the telly's mounted on the wall at eye level, with the dvd/wii/vcr (yes I still use it!!) on a shelf at about adult chest height - all the cables are neatly tucked away behind conduit away from jammy fingers...

Going to wall mount the TV and put my bookshelf speakers up with a cheaper amp to power them in a locked cabinate. Will also give us loads more room in the lounge which will be nice.
Stair gates are also on the way, courtesey of my parents, which is rather nice!
Someone I know put a couple of little rush mats in front of their stereo system as their baby hated the scratchy feel of it and wouldn't crawl on it, and therefore couldn't get near all those tempting buttons! .... cunning
Our stuff isn't majorly expensive, but we let him touch buttons etc when supervised, and once he realsised he was allowed to do it, he decided it wasn't worth bothering with and we've never had an issue really.
The little monkeys are all different .... seems a shame to sell your system though.
I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
best thing for us was not telling him "no"
Distraction was the trick.. let him touch.. and then walk in, fall over and sing on the way down to landing on your face... then laugh hysterlically...
the buttons/stereo/dvd soon forgotten

We left her to it for a few days without going no and rushing over to stop her and she's realised that shes not getting the attention she used to while doing it and has now turned her energy to other things like the washing machine as she loves staring into the glass when it's closed and child-locked
