    EPIA-NL 8000G DVD playback?

    Hi,

A colleague has just built a system based on the VIA EPIA ML-8000G Mini ITX motherboard, has installed WXP and all the drivers, but DVD playback is really slow using Power DVD. I know that the 800MHz CPU isn't going to be exactly stellar performance, but I was under the impression that they had Hardware MPEG-2 decoding which made it reasonably smooth. Any ideas?

What version of PowerDVD are you using? I've heard that version four is a lot better than the later versions for Epia's for some reason so you might want to try that or try using VLC client instead.

I'll get him to check when he gets in. Otherwise i'll use VLC.

We found an "enable hardware accelleration" option, but that gave us no display at all :-S

    Cheers

According to the VIA website the 8000G includes "Integrated VIA UniChrome AGP Graphics with MPEG-2 Accelerator".

so it should be able to play DVDs if the drivers are set up right. I think i've heard of people using the EPIA 6000 series for MythTV frontends.
