You beat to it!!
You beat to it!!
I'll keep ya in mind. :-) I'll hang onto it until PS1 surfaces though, to see how it has shaped up then.
I suspect that as per usual with most Vista bashers your issues are driver based rather than anything else...
Care to explain what it is about the OS that you find non-functional and immature?
Things I like about Vista off the top of my head... UAC (yes, I LIKE it), the new run command/search thingummy, the new UI, the games explorer (when it works...), RDP... the list goes on. Oh, and you'll note that I didn't mention DX10 - I'm sure it'll be great when I can make use of it, but for now I'm not too fussed.
I don't like the filing system the tools are no longer where they were in XP , I don't own vista I have only used it for fixing problems for people mainly because they couldn't connect to my server it took me about an hour to learn how to actually find the upload section on the network whilst vista I could do it straight away but now that I have learnt how to it takes 4 minutes or so
It has a new interface, if you didn't know this I would suggest that you may have been living in a cave for the past few years.
Note that I'm not saying you should know the interface, merely that the default interface has changed. The interface changed between 2k and XP too - there will always be a minority of people who don't like new things because they're not the same as the old things.
EDIT - Anyhoo, I digress - the only things really to consider between the 2 are 1)apps and driver support for what you need and 2)what you will gain by running one over the other. (in terms of an x64 over x86 variant of any OS)

well I haven't got it so I can only give my first impression which was frustration. It hasn't put me off though my next build is going to have the ultimate 64bit or linux mce
To save starting yet another Vista thread, I have a couple of questions.
Would the 64bit version be a waste of time if I'm still using 2gig of RAM? I plan to get 4gig eventually, just not in the next few months.
Also, I can only get "Vista Business Edition". I read that the only thing its missing is Windows Media Centre (or something like that). Am I missing much? I play films, play games, and listen to music on my PC, so would getting the Business Edition be like buying a Ferarri with no wheels?
Theres only two reasons I really want to upgrade:
1) A bunch of my games don't work in XP because of the stupid Nvidia 8800GTX drivers. So there is hope they would work in Vista.
2) I plan on playing Crysis and any other Dx10 games when they are released. I already have the 8800GTX so I just need the operating system really.
Thanks in advance.
No, the 64bit has other advantages than just being able to use 4gb.
Only if you want to use MS's inbuilt software to do so. 3rd party apps to do the same thing will still work. Also, I can only get "Vista Business Edition". Comeoff it
100+ patches already released by MS (Some via windows update, some via 'on a need to patch' basis) ?
Thats hardly user related.
http://tech.yahoo.com/blog/null/24917Ethan Allen, the aforementioned blogger, alludes to that fact, noting that most of the fixes he's seen include "device driver and software compatibility technology that many users had hoped would be available in the operating system from the start." Compatibility concerns comprise most users' biggest complaints about the OS.
The technology behind how windows deals with drivers and software compatibility isn't a user issue. Its a fundamental OS one.
Its great that Vista works for you, but the last time I installed it quite a few of my programs had issues
Every Vista problem isnt user error - some people have serious issues with the OS.
People who use the OS for basic things like office, web browsing and games often dont have issues.
Bring in things like 3D modelling, physics simulation programs, and other non 'run of the mill' software and its a different story currently
I have to disagree with your stance - these are issues with the applications and drivers, not with the OS.
Also the stance re. driver probs only affecting older hardware (I know it wasn't you Agent) I have to disagree with as well - the Creative drivers STILL pretty much blow.
