If the heatsink and cpu are both flat, then the paste will spread itself out evenly.

The tri-cool is fairly noisy on high setting I suppose... could try it on low and medium though and see what you think.

I reckon its probably flat then because it looked like it spread out nicely when I plonked the heatsink on the blob of paste.

So my problem is probably just fan speeds

Aye, I would only ever run it using the AUTO bios setting anyway. So hopefully that will shut it up when its idle, and as long as it doesn't go really noisy when the CPU is stressed, I should be fine.

I'll research fans a bit, and once I've found one that can reach about 2000+ rpm, and yet its not window shattering noisy, I'll buy it. I'll post in here when I get it, and let everyone know what temps I end up with.

Thanks everyone by the way I'm semi-happy already, because its roasting my room today, and yet my CPU is well within safe limits when I'm playing a game. But I just want to get it even lower so I can overclock if/when I need to.
