    It implies a sophistacation where:-
    1) early adopters of product are more likely enthiusiasts - so high overclocks carry more weight, get the product talked about, raising it's profile.
    2) Having established profile will be adopted by a wider market, corporate etc., to whom overclocking isn't a priority, but being able to tout a drop in electrical & temp spec is.
    3) 2) may also allow a less stringent quality threshold giving higher yeilds & a recovery of margin lost in stage 1.

Hopefully i have just outlined a conspiracy theory & they continue to clock well.

    Truckchase! Post #430
I Just picked up a E6600 L701C566 @ Microcenter. Horrid.... I've got a decent water cooling setup and I gave up on this chip when it couldn't do 3.2Ghz stable @ 1.47v. Switched back to my wk 2006 27A that can do 3.5@ the same voltage
That add to the rumour mill

I don't think we have anything to fear... some people have gotten hold of their Q6600 G0 steppings and they've gone to 4GHz on air stabily and quite cool (~55 C load at 4GHz o.o, for the lucky ones who can get that at 1.45v or so).

    Some others getting ~3.7GHz - 3.9GHz stable .

Sorry should have posted with info, here it is

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=150042

General concensus is that 3.6GHz is looking good on air for 24/7 operating.

I'll believe those results when i can do them myself...I remember the last lot of benchmarks when the Conroes were due out, turned out to be wildly exaggerated, so I wouldnt buy on the strength of those just yet

Totally agree, as do others. from same XS thread

    QX6700 G0 Stepping - QXUZ L712A - The Nemesis Post #58
I just hope this isn't gonna be a repeat of last year & Core2 Duo's. All the early engineering samples were hitting 4Ghz+ on air for benching & 3.8ghz Prime/Orthos stable easily. Most retail chips struggled to hit 3.6Ghz Prime/Orthos stable when first released, and unitl the "B" batches 4Ghz on air was near impossible. All these Quad G0 results we're seeing are engineering samples
