    A quickie for those in the know...

    Dabbling with some OC'ing with my E6750, but hitting some confusion with regards to temp monitoring;

    Now, I've read that Speedfan reports temps around 15C lower than they are, but in my case it would seem TAT (designed for Pentium M if memory serves, to perhaps not wholly accurate either) and CoreTemp are also out by around that, because they report similar temps to Speedfan.

    I dont mind that its at 55C under full load, because I dont think it's too bad - tell me if it is!

    However, I do find it odd that all 3 apps appear to have the same discrepancy - am I right to assume they are all ~15C out?

    Edit: Apologies for the rubbish title, I was writing this in a hurry and neglected to change it, sorry.

    Re: A quickie for those in the know...

    Everyone I've spoken to suggests core temp is the truest temp.

    Temps seem fine, i would think something around core temp/TAT would be accurate. Speedfan is a bit spazzy

    Well as they are all saying pretty much the same thing..its a fair assumption that its the correct temp lol

    Thats what I was going to say They are all within a few degrees of each other, so its pretty safe to assume they are all reading the temp pretty accurately.

    CoreTemp is good, but Intel TAT is very good too. It is reading the core temp directly from a digital thermometre built into the chip. It works perfectly fine on the C2D. It only says Pentium M because the program is a bit neglected by Intel. Its not an officially released program or anything.. its like a secret little tool that people aren't meant to really know about and use, but someone found it and word has spread. So yeah, its a good program.

    The only one which is a bit shifty, is SpeedFan, which often gives out of whack temperatures for people. But in my experience, the new version of it, is absolutely bang on. On my PC, its always within 1 or 2 degrees of both Intel TAT and CoreTemp. And unlike those programs... it monitors other temperatures too, and can let you change the fan speeds etc..

    And yeah, 55C under full load is decent. You should ideally aim to never reach 59 or more, and you can't go wrong. (Some people don't mind going a bit over 60, but 59 or less seems to be a nice goal to reach). What are you overclocked to by the way?

    Re: A quickie for those in the know...

    In those pics, it's an E6750@3.2ghz (400Mhz FSB, RAM can run at 800Mhz with that OC, so it's not under any extra stress I dont think.)

    Well, I think I shall beleive what CoreTemp/TAT are saying then, and be chuffed with the cooling on my CPU
