    Question Mobo Chipset Advice

I'm looking to buy a new motherboard, processor and RAM combo. The CPU is going to be a C2Q Q6600, with 2GB DDR2 RAM. What I'm currently struggling on is which is the best motherboard chipset to meet my needs.

I will be pairing it up to a 8800GT, at least 3 SATA HDDs, 2 DVD-RWs, 2 PCI cards and one PCI-E card (a TV tuner, not the GFX card). SLI is not important to me. Overclocking is not important to me. I'd like as many SATA ports as possible, to allow for more HDDs or new DVD/Blu-Ray/HDDVD drives. I need as many USB ports as possible (at least 2 internal connectors, more preferred). Onboard sound is not required, nor is onboard graphics.

    With so many options (nforce 780i, 750i, 680i, 650i, 630i, 4, 5, Intel 975, x38, P31-35, G31/33 and so on), I havent a clue what's my best option.

Budget is quite tight. I'm not going to put a definate limit on it, but if I can get similar performance with something much cheaper, then I'll get the cheaper one. Ideally, I'd like to spend £60-something or less. If the performance gains from a more expensive mobo are really noticable, then I'll consider spending more.

    Can anyone offer any advice?

    Thanks.

a P35 with the ICH9R southbridge sounds like it would be up your street.
That way you'll get at least 6 SATA ports (& quite possibly another 2 on a JMicron or similar for a total of 8) plus upto 12 USB ports.

    Re: Mobo Chipset Advice

If budget is tight, I'd consider droping the Q6600 for a C2D.
And if your even thinking of running vista, 4Gb ram is a must.
I've 4, and firefox is using 26% alone!
