It's good but I am sorry to hear it's a Seagate and not a faster, quieter and cehaper Samsung F1.

As said that's a great speed for a single drive but random access time is higher than than average though.

    It was new

It had already started consolidating all my other hard drives into this when I remembered to run hdtach. Does the drive being not empty affect the access time?

There isn't much between that and my RAID0 on the sequential read speed, so thats nice
My burst is much higher though. Tempted to get one myself now! Aggh!

Re: Got a new Hard drive :)

I'm running two Seagate 250GB 7200.10s in RAID0, and they're quite fast. You picked a good drive, mate. :-D Its what I was going to buy (except as a 500GB model) before I decided to go RAID. The next time i reboot, I'll shut down everything (like the thing recommends) and test my own drives; it oughta make an interesting comparison since my drives are just a generation older.

Re: Got a new Hard drive :)

Average read is pretty good, access time is pretty bad It's a disk to store lots of data though rather than a rapid database/game launching device I guess. I'd like one to back up my NAS box, I'll make do with two 500GB in RAID0 for now though.
    Good buy though

Don't tempt me! I have 7 disks in my PC already, I fear another one would push my PSU over the edge! There's always a second ESata port on my motherboard though I guess....hmmmmm

I've just noticed you haven't flicked the jumper on the drive from SATA I to SATA II, as your burst speed shows. Change it!

SHould receive my drive on Tuesday, looking forward to it. How much did you pay for it used?
