    Re: My new Quad-core RIG

Yep, but I think most retailers have already factored in the price cut this week for the q6600. You could get a q6600 frm tekheads for 139, last week they were at 145. The q6700 might go to £230-£240 perhaps?

What sort of temperature drop did you get?

Why do people have this belief that you need to run your RAM with a 1:1 divider?!

Well it ran better at 1:1 back when, but it doesn't make a difference these days so don't worry about it.

Sort of sits nicely for both the GPU and CPU and affects both temps. It's brings air into the case

Not true anymore. My divider is at 1:1.5 I think, and the memory bandwidth is definitely improved by the corresponding amount. Stable as a rock sitting in concrete.

Yeh .. I was all over the place when looking for parts

And finally concluded my valiant research like two weeks ago. I hate building PCs nowdays, 3 years ago .. I could easily have figured out the "best" parts .. jus copy everybody else .. nowdays, its like 10000 permutations which all perform well

Yep .. I am still overclocking but I ended up with a crappy chip that's got a VID of 1.30. So I can only go till 3.33Ghz at vcore of 1.4. I have been trying to get it to 3.42 @ 380 fsb x 9 but its being stubborn. I don't think I can hit 3.5 on this chip or even 3.6 on air .. maybe not even water as it seems to want vcore at 1.45 to do 3.42

Has anyone else ordered Q6600s recently, what kind of VIDs are they getting? I did read somewhere else that most recent ones are coming with higher VIDs.

Board's no problem, I ended up getting the ip35 pro .. and its a brilliant board but annoyingly has plenty of vdroop of 0.06/0.07.

Will be posting up details and photos later on. Did some cable management today .. and it all looks spanky neat! Only got two 120mm x 2 Akasa fans in my case, so might have to add in another as the first is in front of the hdds; so that's not helping at all with cooling. Was thinking about going with this Scythe Kama Bay Fan.

    Re: My new Quad-core RIG

Ok .. I am done with my overclocks .. compiled a few results.

Might be helpful to others. How are my temperatures in comparison to those who have similar VID chips? Are these temperatures in-line with what is expected or out of line?

Also, I will definately have to get the Scythe Bay fan .. as I was did some testing today, and my temperatures @ Load dropped by about 4-5 celcius with every overclock shown in the results. Kind of expected as the only intake fan I have is a 120mm in front of the hdds.

The first voltages are BIOS voltages, idle/load are from HW monitor. I have used the lower of the voltages shown by HW monitor and the higher of the core temperatures shown by coretemp.

    Ambient temperatures are 21 Celcius.
