    Acer Aspire 1670 Problem

    Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a Acer 1670 laptop. Its developed a problem, maybe terminal?. It will only occasionally switch on now if I physically hold the end of the power cable and apply inward pressure where it connects to the power jack.

I took it to my local pc repair shop. The technician at the shop told me that the motherboard is faulty and needs replaced at a cost of £200. Is there no way to fix this problem with out the motherboard being replaced?

    Thanks,

    Gerry.

if you can solder it will cost you £4.75 for a new laptop socket

i suggest calling the shop and calling the guy a robbing bastard for trying to con you.

Acer Aspire 1642 1660 1670 DC Jack power socket PJ14 on eBay, also, Cables Laptop Connectors, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 05-Jun-08 17:36:31 BST)

i really hate people that say the boards shagged when its a simple repair like that, i charge £40 to strip, repair and rebuild with a good clean out, if your near nottingham i can help, if not i suggest these guys who will do the repair at a very fair price for a business New Jack range

either way make sure you phone the guy who quoted £200 as i can guarentee he will be paying a fiver for parts and selling you your own motherboard back.

while your at it name and shame the business so other buyers can stay well away.

Of course it could be that the guy in the shop is a total idiot. There's as many of those as there are crooks.

Thanks mate appreciate you help. I will have a go and replace the part myself. Any tips on opening up a laptop so I can get at the motherboard?

I mean this with the utmost of respect, but please - Don't.

If you need advise on how to open a laptop then you almost certainly don't have the skills to repair the socket.

Get someone who knows how to solder to do it. I mean everything - take it apart and resolder it on

Tell us your location - chances are there might be someone on here willing to help
