gaming pc to play age of conan

hey there, i'm trying to put together a pc just soley for gaming so I can keep all my photo editing on my q6600 pc. i've just bought aoc and i'm really enjoying it, but it also runs REALLY badly on my gaming rig.... (25 fps max) so I think it's time to upgrade to duel core and dx10.

i've been told that in some instances a duel core will run faster than a quad core, is this true?

basically i've got 500ish to spend and I already have a nice 22" hands g monitor for my current single core gaming rig which runs at 1680x1050 I think? my only real preference appart from it being able to run age of conan well, is I want to run a single graphics card (although I don't mind if the mobo is SLI/crossfire capable) and I want it to be quiet, i've already got a nice case, keyboard and mouse.

i want a pc that can run age of conan at over 30+ fps on medium settings

I would really like suggestions for a quiet psu as well, silent if possible since my case has a big ass 280mm fan on the side of it to keep it cool.

Re: gaming pc to play age of conan

Corsair HX520 is pretty quiet and a good buy. Seeing as you have a Q6600 I reckon a C2D would do nicely. Really you can get away with anything that will clock to 3GHz, which is most chips. You mention DX10 so that means Vista. IMO Vista32 is a waste so I would get Vista64 and 4Gb RAM.

But with new GFX cards coming out real soon now, it would be worth waiting to see what's available in a few weeks.

Re: gaming pc to play age of conan

    £500... here goes:
    Intel E7200 2.53Ghz - £83.88
    MSI P35NEO2-FR - £65.79
    512Mb Gigabyte 8800GT - £112.66
    4Gb Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 800Mhz - £68.90
    160Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 - £29.25
    520W Corsair HX Modular PSU - £64.38
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64Bit - £62.62

That all comes to under £500 with delivery:

As Thorsson says with the immanent release of the new GFX cards, namely the HD4850 and GTX280/260, its worth while to wait for them to come out. Apparently the HD4850 is meant to come on the market for a similar price to the 8800GT I linked as well as being faster but it might not be true, you never know. I'd personally wait for the HD4850 myself.
