If you find the 9800GTX for £125 or under brand new in the next 6 months in the UK i will buy it for you.

Interesting, $199 does equal £125 after all

How long until the 9800GTX is sold at £125, as nvidia have dropped it to $199... I want my free graphics card from Blitzen

    Re: 4850 and 9800GTX for £125

The 9800GTX+ does look an interesting card, but it will cost more than the HD4850 and looks like in most games will only manage to be on a par with it.

I've just gone and ordered my HD4850, will post pics when it gets here I was deliberating about waiting for the 4870, but at $299 it will be 50% more expensive than the 4850 (I'm guessing £180 - £190), and I can't see it being anywhere near 50% faster. I have a 22" monitor, at 1680x1050, so I don't think I need the extreme bandwidth that the GDDR5 will bring. But I guess I'll find out in the next week or so...

That would be amazing if that's true. Can't wait to see what the HD4870 does if the HD4850 can compete with the GTX260...

AFAIK the hotfix is more of a bugfix, not a way of improving speed.

Pants instantaneously dries.. raises the finger for a ride.. PEACE..

    ..........................

Anyhow.. its a good move by ATI. Nvidia's been up on top for so long they're getting to feel like Intel during the start of the Netburst days.. okok... maybe its a bad analogy..

GTX280 feels like the Netburst, but HD4850 doesn't really feel like the next Athlon 64..

Which reminds me... the R600 felt like the Netburst too... bahhh well...

I got the Sapphire, but just because it was the cheapest. I don't have much brand loyalty when it comes to graphics cards, just take the best value at the time.

I guess the hotfix drivers are just simple fixes for bugs, or I'm sure AMD would be shouting about it a bit more. But having said that, these cards were released earlier than AMD planned, so I wouldn't be suprised if there are modest improvements with a (future) driver update.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to some benchmarking when the card turns up. I'll run it at stock for a few days then see what it'll overclock to

It seems some of the initial reviews for the 4850 were misleading and but it now looks like the 4850 is a real winner. time to start counting the pennies

if by some random chance the 4870 beats the nvidia's 280 things might just get little more interesting
