    Re: Partition

Darn - I had never realised thouse downsides - but would I not be able to set the programmes to save files in the other partitions - not windows.

And what do you think of the proposed partitions??

    Re: Partition

Having the OS system in its own partition is a good idea - mainly if/when it comes to re-installation. Why do you want to put office on the same partition/ Its just another application.

Remember that there is a (very small) overhead in lost disk space (62 sectors) for every extended partition you create.

But there is nothing inherently wrong with the partition structure you suggest.

    Re: Partition

My friend bought the 3 user licence edition, and lets me use one of his licences. <-- I don't think that this is ileagle

I thought that this way i could inculde office in the ghost image, so i would not have to ask for the cd again

    Re: Partition

When you install some software on second partition

then you format first partition to reinstall window..

Some software from second partition is not going to work because some files and registry was stored in window partition? and also some shortcut icon is lost from start menu.

    im mistaken?

No - you are not mistaken. Any software application that makes modifications to the system registry as part of its installation routine will fail to run correctly after a windows re-install because those registry settings will be lost. Software applications that do NOT rely on registry settings to operate will not be affected.

So do you have to keep reinstalling software like ms office, ftp clients, etc after reinstalling windows?

I dont think it worth having second partition if that the case.

    Re: Partition

The advantage is that yoiu can keep the OS partition fairly small, and I think (although I haven't tried it) you might be able to use the repair function) if it is offered on the installer. But it comes down to personal preference. However I think that a separate partition for user data is well worth it.
