I'm doing a new build soon but I still think the Q6600 is the best out there: £105!!!

Its only the best if you need a quad... 95% of people don't

    Re: Another upgrade/build thread. E8400

Wouldn't the E8400 still be a better option than the E8500? It's basically the same speed for less price, overclocks to nearly the same limit too if you're that way inclined

Yeah, the 45nm dual cores run cool and use less power than a quad, but the 95W Q6600 is still a bargain, especially if you want Supreme Commander to run smoothly >:@

    Re: Another upgrade/build thread. E8400

The 8500 is only about £10 more though. I paid nearly that much for a burger in a restaurant the other day. Yes I paid £8 for a burger, it was the cheapest thing on the menu. It was pretty good, not sure if it was worth £8 though, I'd rather have an E8500 lol. Supreme commander ran ok on my single core lol. I don't play it anymore anyway though.

There's no difference between the E8400 and the E8500 apart from 0.5 of a multiplier. Unless you're going to watercool to get these above 4Ghz it really will be like buying the same chip. I'll take the burger! (What beef did they use in that burger? Better have been the Queen's own prized cow coz 8 quid is steeep!)

I'll definitely consider the Abit. Is the IP35 pro xe better than the plain pro? I've been using ASUS boards since about 2000 and I've never really needed any support. Very solid boards I've found. I do tend to trust ASUS boards over other makes therefore.
Its exceptionally good and gets nothing but good reviews.
I have been uing the Mine for almost a year and am extremely impressed.

I think I'm going to wait, at least for the corresponding price drop in core 2 chips. http://forums.hexus.net/news/143844-...september.html
