    Stupid (possibly) question...

Going a little nuts trying to do something that should (I think) be relatively simple... please help

I want to calibrate Real Temp to my processor and it says to do this at idle with the CPU fan going at 100%... but I can't work out how to get my fan to spin at 100% at idle... I have an Abit iX38 motherboard.

As far as I can see, the BIOS doesn't have an option to set the CPU fan at a certain default RPM or % value. I can set it up so that when the CPU temp goes over 25C the fan will kick in to a definable %, but 25C is the lowest setting it'll let me input as a trigger.

This is no good as at idle my CPU temp is only reported as being 20C or thereabouts...

How can I set my CPU fan to just run at a set % at startup?

    All advice welcome, thanks

You can set it in uGuru if you need to.

RealTemp is pretty nasty though so try Everest.

    Re: Stupid (possibly) question...

    Hi Blitzen,

Whereabouts in uGuru? All I'm seeing is the Fan EQ and that just lets me set fan speed by a temperature range? Or am I missing something?

I do have Everest Ultimate (paid the £20 to register it ) but it seems to be giving me weird temps so I'm trying pretty much every monitoring program under the sun to see what they say (realtemp was recommended as it uses a different algorithm to measure temperature, is that right?)

    cheers

    Re: Stupid (possibly) question...

Now, without changing anything, my CPU fan has suddenly started spinning at 900RPM with a CPU temp of 15C (supposedly)...

I'm about ready to give up on trying to understand this

    uGuru = http://www.abit.com.tw/page/au/downl...ET_TYPE=LGA775

Should give you everything you need.

    BTW.....Everest temps are very accurate.

    Re: Stupid (possibly) question...

    Everest is reporting my CPU temp to be 15C, Core1 = 31, Core2 = 31, Core3 = 23 and Core4 = 26...

Doesn't seem very accurate? or is it accurately reporting a wrong temperature sensor readout?

    cheers

    Re: Stupid (possibly) question...

Thanks for the link Blitzen... what's it meant to show me?

I have the uGuru manual open in front of me, but I can't see anywhere that tells me how to simply set my fan speed to a set value, rather than a range based on CPU temp? Or am I blind??

    cheers

    Re: Stupid (possibly) question...

Look in the settings at the top right hand corner

Also, it sounds like an older version of Everest you have there as only the newer version report X38/X48 correctly.

    The search function??

My version of Everest is the 'Everest Ultimate v.4.50.1330' which I believe to be the most recent?

    Re: Stupid (possibly) question...

Still no closer to sorting this out...

All I want to do is set my CPU fan to spin at say 500RPM all the time, but I can't figure out how to do it in the iX38 BIOS...

Anyone out there using this mobo (I know Blitzen is )

Please don't bump threads on the same day buddy, its just not needed. If someone that can help sees your thread they will probably reply regardless of high up the page it is.

To do it in uGuru - go into your BIOS, then uGuru. Make sure that you have both minimum and maximum set to 12V for your CPU fan. Also disable EIST and C1E if needed. This will mean it runs at full at all times

    Re: Stupid (possibly) question...

Hi Agent, didn't reply yesterday for fear of being trampled on for 'bumping'! For the record, I wouldn't have called that a gratuitous 'bump' myself, but I take your point, sorry Am just getting a bit frustrated with trying to get this to work (I know it must be simple!)

Anyhoo... I've gone into the BIOS and into the uGuru section... it does not give me the option of setting the CPU fan by voltage (that I can see). There's a FanEQ menu where I can set the CPU fan speed by a range of temperatures, but not by voltage.

I think I might just give up on this and buy a fan controller such as the Scythe Kaze Master... That should allow me the control I want, shouldn't it??

    cheers
