    Best mobo for around £100

Ok so i've got around £100 (can go lower can go higher, but not too much) and i want to upgrade my board, after talking around i was told not to bother with a 680i board but rather to go for the i35 chipset. Now i can get a few good boards for this price but they're all pretty much the same, i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this chipset and could give me an idea of which board to go for. Obviously for around £100 i could go for a different chipset, but again, i'm not too sure which board would be good for me.

I do a lot of 3D Rendering, watching movies/burning dvds and playing games but im not a serious o/cer however given the right mobo and processer setup i might start o/cing...

CPC still insists the best board for £100 is the Asus P5K Premium Wifi/AP, apparently because of speed, features and overclocking potential.

The new Asus P5Q-E has been well received as it offers decent overclocking and a good set of features but P45 boards have so far been comparatively slow: motherboard performance can significantly affect system performance.

Those 2 boards highlight the choice quite well I think: P35 boards are generally "better" but P45 boards offer "more features" that don't really make a difference to speed or overclocking yet...

Others will suggest Abit and Gigabyte alternatives I'm sure.

I would go for the Abit IP-35 PRO. There is a newer P45 chipset but it doesn't really add anything particularly useful imo. If you do get P45 the ASUS P5Q PRO or P5Q-E will be decent enough.

agreed, both very good boards, i would personally go for the asus though for the sake of it.

That's not the latest chipset, it's the budget version of the 780i, and there's now a 790i. It only supports up to 1333 FSB, doesn't have e-SATA and only has 4 SATA ports. There are no extras, and it won't OC as well as the Intel boards.

NV chipsets can only be recommended for those wanting/can afford to run 2xGTX280 in SLI (otherwise XFire or a single card would be better), and if you can afford that you can probably afford the 790i. Can't see why anyone would want/buy a 750i board.

asus p5q-e or deluxe would get my vote, however unless you need the features save yourself £20 and get a P5Q Pro
