Intel Q6600 SLACR: 1 yr old & the least depreciating CPU in history?

Just trawling through some old Hexus posts, and i realised that even though this CPU is still recommenced today as a good purchase, it really really was a good recommendation 12 months ago!
It debued last August (and by October was under £160); it was at £146 in Feb 2008.
    Today it's at £120.
I keep waiting for this little bugger to drop further, but it's just not happening!
Those people that got one a year ago, can't be feeling too annoyed with themselves.

Any other CPU's that have held themselves so high for so long?

Some dual core 939s are selling for more than the original RRP price

939 high end chips are rare i thought? well now they are, remember buying a 939 x2 3800+ for like 30 quid only about a year ago

agreed, 939 dual cores are rare at the moment. I know of qt least two people who would like a cheapy one but they're not cheap at the mo.

My QX6700 is still worth some serious dough too it seems.

Re: Intel Q6600 SLACR: 1 yr old & the least depreciating CPU in history?

Mine's just past it's first birthday and it cost me $269 at the time it was $2 to the £. Given it's been on pretty well non-stop since that time that makes it a real bargain. It'll be interesting to see what effect the current recession and drop in oil prices has on costs. Nothing noticeable so far...

My mate bought one of these just over a year ago - lucky guy I built my own PC a bit over a year earlier than him and I'm lumbered with a crappy A64 3800+ :/ I was hoping that the same amount of CPU progress would have been made this past year, but it just seems like things have stayed static.

Re: Intel Q6600 SLACR: 1 yr old & the least depreciating CPU in history?

Well it's my very intention to upgrade, perhaps today, that spurred all this on! I'm getting a good price P35 motherboard, RAM is really cheap, and i've really torn between an E5200 and a Q6600. Of course one is twice the price of the other, but i'm just so torn... maybe i'll ask Scan for a Today Only.

Even at 120quid the Q6600 is a bargain - so much performance, overclocking headroom etc. I can't see me moving to the new DDR3 platform for a good while as a result!

Re: Intel Q6600 SLACR: 1 yr old & the least depreciating CPU in history?

I got my Q6600 for 100 pounds the other week when my 939 rig went a bit funny and kept crashing and giving BSOD's due to memory slot issues.

I'm loving the speed of the processor as it hit 400 FSB the other night easily without any lock-ups or issues on my DFI DK P35-T2RS.

Oh and 4 Gb of DDR2 running vista ultimate x64 and EVERYTHING works. No issues with drivers, software issues or compatibility issues.

Re: Intel Q6600 SLACR: 1 yr old & the least depreciating CPU in history?

I've been watching the price of the Q6600 recently and it has been going up and down almost daily on many retailer's websites.

I put a big order in with Scan at the weekend, which included a Q6600, and did so as the price had just dropped £5 that day.

Would have bought the cheaper E8400 if I was into gaming though.
