Hmm didnt notice the sd964 was different, it wqas tested with the same cpu but different mobo+RAM. Scan dont have the 964 only the 963(3 heatpipes) so will checkebuyer etc but if i find the sd1283 cheap ill get that. Was there any difference from the 1283 and the 1284? id expect the latter todo better with 4 heatpipes instead of 3 but it performs slightly better on load and worse on idle.

Well the 1284's base was wider so the outer heatpipes were only half on the IHS, maybe that has something to do with it?

alright, sounds logical. Looking on the web the ocz vendetta 2 seems better, similr price to just cant see it anywhere. No rush for a new heatsink yet so will keep an eye out for either of them on offer.

Aye, the results have contradicted other sites results on more than 1 occasion. If you really wanted the best then you'd check through many reviews and you'd start noticing the names which came top most of the time, out of 3 or 4 independant reviews it'll be harder to get that odd result.

I have my Akasa 965 arrived now, unfortunately i'm going to have to wait a little while before i can assemble my whole new system... and it's killing me! LOL.
Anyway, i found an SPCR review for this HSF for those interested.

Re: Recommend me a CPU HSF please

I got mine yesterday and it's up and running now on my q6600 (My first self built PC) and in core temp im getting 32,35,32,32 and speedfan gives me 31,35,31,31 (All at idle). They seem rather low, do you think those are correct?

Re: Recommend me a CPU HSF please

For Idle temps they seem about right especially for the time of year remember your temps will be heavily dependent on the ambient room temperature.

Much more important are the load temperatures, that is where a heat sinks efficiency is revealed.
