    Re: Will this boot?

    dammit!

Just tried to plug in the power to the new motherboard and it's got a 24 pin power socket and an 8 pin power socket!

My power supply only seems to have a 24pn and a 4pin (in a square shape) power plugs (although the 24pin splits into a 20pn and an 4pin, but I don't think that helps here).

Is the 12v 8 pin plug required for the mobo to work? I'm guessing yes...

edit: I've just made delivery cut off for tomorrow, so i've purchased the gigabyte as it looks like it's only got 24pin + 4 pin power which should be ok, unless anyone knows any better?

    Re: Will this boot?

Some motherboards have the 8 pin socket but are happy if you just plug in a 4 pin others are a bit more picky Try it and see the worst that will happen is it wont post.

hmm sounds a bit risky for me, especially if i want to return it... which side would you try first, either could be the wrong one and then i'd be stuck.

Think i'll just return it and see what the gigabyte is like. Thanks for the info though, you're much braver than me

    Re: Will this boot?

It will only go in one half one pin is a different shape

It should say in the manual if it requires the full 8 pin to be connected or not.

    Re: Will this boot?

there is only a quickstart guide in the box, but on the cd there is a pdf, but in that it just has a picture of where the two power sockets are, and a breakdown of what each of the pins does in the 24pin socket, but nothing except a drawing of the 8 pin socket.

    Re: Will this boot?

looking around, it looks like this is what i'd need: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...9521&DOY=24m10

It seems to split the two power lines on a normal 4-in-line power connector into 8 cables, which doesn't sound too good to me. From the pic I can see two yellow wires coming out of one of the pins, and each of those two yellow wires gets split again, giving 4 cables.

    Re: Will this boot?

yeah it would be much better if you could find one which allowed you to add the second 4 pins in that way.

Something like this is what you want ideally http://www.hipergroup.com/products.p...ction=Picture#

Now all i need to do is find somewhere you can buy it!

Easier to find than I thought Scan link
