    Front Audio Cable Extensions

    Hey all,

When doing my new build recently, I was unable to connect the front audio cables to my Asus P5Q-E and it was too far away. I've tried to google about, but cant seem to find any extension cables... Anyone have a clue where you can get some?

Or any instructions on a home made one? ie. Can I just cut the cable, buy 'x' type of wire and extend?

oh - btw, its HD audio, not AC97, if that makes any difference.

    Re: Front Audio Cable Extensions

you can just buy multiple packs and daisy chain them together, it's not an ideal solution, but it would work!

you might be better off with a pair of terminal blocks and inserting a set of wires in between.

As the crow flies, about 10cm... but that was trying before i installed the GPU etc... though i guess that i could try to run it under the mobo. Ideally a lot more though, as I could route it nicely down the side...

Will have to see if the under-the-mobo option is viable, as then i might only need to daisy chain 2 packs or so. And I have no idea what you mean in the second sentence - well I do kind of, just not sure what to get, do i need special wire etc...

Its odd, you would have thought that this sort of thing would be easier to find online...

    Re: Front Audio Cable Extensions

I can see it now a great long chain of 4.5cm connectors

What you really need is one of these but in the UK rather than the states

    http://www.frontx.com/pro/cpx531.html

Of course you can just cut the wires and extend it with more wire which will be fine as long as you can hide the join somewhere, wouldn't want things looking ugly!

    Got it!

    http://uk.ten.ebid.net/perl/auction....9-0&mo=auction

it's for USB, but thats just 10pins straight through, so can be used for anything. Cut any un-needed pins off if they are in the way

    Re: Front Audio Cable Extensions

Ah - frontx... came across them on my googling... went to the audio leads though...So, let me get this straight... the wires themselves are special, just which ones which is why you can just use the USB entension... And I just have to snap off pins until it matches the header and that should be ok? I can leave the unused wire connected though right?

Thanks for all the help chaps... Will have to see if I have any spare USB extensions lying about, if not, then at least I know what to look for now.

    Re: Front Audio Cable Extensions

No, ignore me, i think i got that wrong. I thought they were 10 pin straight through extension cables, but they aren't.

I think you may have to order from the US unfortunately.
