I would go for an Antec 300
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=811571
comes with a 120mm and 140mm fan - i would get two extra 120mm ones for the front pannel

The Antec NSK4400 is a good cheap case for around £30. I have one and it comes with one 120mm fan. Other alternatives include the Akasa Zen which contains two 120mm fans and the Coolermaster RC330 and RC331 cases which have one 120mm fan. They both also cost around £30.

    Re: cheap silent case?

I'd second what Will says, I just got an Antec 300 recently, and for the money, its great. If you dont need flashy then its plain and understated. The grill at the front is great. I added 2 Akasa fans to put at the front and even with 4 fans, its not loud.

The exhaust and roof fan have fan controllers, though at high, it does make a racket... You might find the fron audio cable a bit short, but apart from that its great. Has loads of drive bays for storage - which is dead important for all the DVDs etc you might have...

Oh, also, everything is thumbscrew based, so you dont need to find that screwdriver anymore

    Re: cheap silent case?

Do you want a tower or a desktop or cube case? And is your motherboard ATX or µATX? Both important questions in finding you the right case.

    Re: cheap silent case?

its going to be a atx board.

im not bothered if its a desktop or tower... i just want the best silent solution. cooling shouldnt be to much of an issue as well because this system wont be under much stress just internet and movies etc... really gonna act as a server.

the 300 looks cool but you where saying the top fans are loud?

The top fan is 140mm and has a fan controller on it. it can obviously get loud if you turn it to high, but, if you are just having the system for media, then basically, you probably wont need the 2 intake fans either... or even the top one. Without those, I would say that it wouldnt be noticable in a lounge in all but the quietest parts of a film...

    Re: cheap silent case?

I have the 900, and it is not too loud. I cannot hear it over my music though if I win that compo I will upgrade the cooling.
