    First Build: couple questions

    Hey Guys,

I received my case and components this afternoon, and I'm just checking on a couple of things.

    1,
I have an Antec P180, case and I know I have to put the mobo (pk5 premium) on raisers, but when looking at the case it looks like the raisers are already there. 9 in total.
So i'm just checking, because I have only 3 brass raises that have come with the case. Which look like spares,

    2,
Also on looking at my cpu (dual core 8400) in a box, it has a heat sink with it, now I read that when the heat sink is supplied with the cpu it's a cheap make.so is it better to buy another. Is this the case.

I hope all this makes sense,

    thanks in advance

    Re: First Build: couple questions

Aftermarket coolers will definately give much better cooling than the stock heatsink.

If you are planning on overclocking at all, or just want a cool build, a decent aftermarket heatsink is a must .

    Re: First Build: couple questions

1)The risers are already in there you are correct.

    2) The stock cooler is fine for stock settings.. it's as simple as that. They can be noisey, they can let the chip run up to it's maximum heat etc.. Most people doing builds choose some sort of aftermarket solution for either better cooling, noise or both

The stock one is apparently one of the quietest:

    Re: First Build: couple questions

    Hi Again,

Ok I've installed the hdd, gpu, cpu & heatsink. all was going well until I tried to install the dvd drive, on looking at the bay It looked a little tight but anyway I fixed the guide rails onto the dvd drive and tried to ease the drive into the bay.
Unless I'm doing something really wrong by fixing the guide rails to the side of the dvd drive, it just won't go in. Tried it with-out the guide rails but this doesn't look right. I did take out the front plates prior to attempting to put the dvd drive in the case.
So guys have you any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks again in advance
