Question Advice needed please on a system £800 budget

Hiya. My Dad's looking to get a new PC, and I was hoping you guys might be able to offer some recommendations, please?

He's looking for something that will have a powerful enough GFX card to both (a) power his 24" 1920x1080 monitor, and (b) help out with HD video-editing. The processor and RAM will also need to be fairly capable to help with the latter. The only other main requirement is for a Blu-Ray writer for recording said HD movies.

Can you please advise what sort of system he should go for with an £800 budget (might be able to stretch a tiny bit, but not much). He's always been keen on Dell systems, and has had many in the past, so recommendations in that direction won't be a problem.

    Thanks for all assistance!

I know this is outside your budget but this Core i7 based Dell will do the job well:

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...=D02SX04&s=dhs

If you upgrade to 6gb of RAM it will cost £929.

    The basic specs are:

    Core i7 920
    6gb RAM
    750GB HDD
    HD4850 graphics card
    Blu-Ray writer.

If you use Quidco you will get 4% cashback from Dell for home computers(this is on the price excluding VAT though). This mean after you subtract the yearly £5 membership fee you will get around £27 in cashback!!

Thanks ... that is a little beyond budget, unfortunately though. Any other options you could suggest? Appreciate the link though ... certainly somewhere to start!

I assume that he is not gaming??

If he isn't then this system will do fine:

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...=D02SX03&s=dhs

It comes to £909 with 6gb of RAM(4gb means that the RAM does not run in triple channel). I would sell the 20" monitor. You should be able to get £80+ for it. Together with Quidco cashback it should bring the total cost down to around £800!
