Really? Hmmm - I think maybe I skipped past the SYSMark results - I'm suspicious about any piece of software that has the E8400 winning consistently when the other results show a different story! And possibly I ignored the gaming results as the differences are all at points where you wouldn't notice (an extra 5 fps is meaningless on top of 112!). *shrug* I think the most important point about the 720 *is* the fact that it will handle multithread software much better, and that multithreaded software should become a lot more prevalent in the next few years (after all, even a lowly dual-core Atom 330 can handle 4 threads simultaneously!)

opt for the Antec P182 unless you want the full lights and fans option - on the 900 2 it can be abit much, I used to have a 900 and apart from the lights and the noise it gets incredibly dusty.

Then I bought a P182 which is the best case ive had so far... the Gunmetal black aluminium panels look far better than the lights anyway.

and why not get a blueray drive not a blue ray recorder just a read drive you can find some nice ones for about £50.

The Q6600 has some life still left it in it though!! I have one too and it is certainly fast enough for most things I do TBH. Newer Intel and AMD processors are being released next year anyway so I would definitely hold off any platform updates until next year if you already have an Intel or AMD quad core. The longer you wait between platform updates the more cost effective it will be for the average user.

The 900-2 has dust filters which the 900 doesn't, and I think you can turn the lights off, but the Antec P182 does look sweet. Damn, more decisions!

gotta make sure I pick the right motherboard. Asus P6T Deluxe (£224), Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 (£215) or save cash and get the Asus P6T for £160?

BTW,I think if you are on a single core still then a Core i7 will be a HUGE upgrade.

hmm, a friend has an old case they will sell for dirt cheap - it's a Thermaltake Xaser III 1000C and got good reviews when it came out years ago.

Any thoughts? It's missing all four dust filters and I'm not sure where to get these; also one of the front fans is missing but I can easily get another one.

I would recommend a Corsair HX 520W, it seems quieter than the BeQuiet units

audio: on-board or an old Audigy 2 for now

burner: Sony Optiarc/NEC AD 7200S-0B

GeForce GTX 275 896MB

total: just over a grand.

This is intended to last for ages with potential for overclocking the CPU and maybe adding another GTX275 in the future.
If there's anything glaringly incompatible or anything please let me know.

Haven't decided where to get the GTX275 from though - can anyone suggest a good manufacturer for this? ta
