Question Help with Ram for ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe

    Hello

Im looking at getting a system together to see me through for the next 1-2 years.

Im going for a ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe, but what I need some help with is what RAM (2 x 512) and CPU you would recommend. Im intending to OC it, and as ive never attemped such a thing - some imput from you fine fellows would be great.

    thx

I would recommend a Mobile Barton 2500+ and a couple of sticks of Corsair XMS (or TwinMOS with Winbond on a lower budget.)

Any reason for the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe over the Abit NF7-S?

No reason except that it seemed to have what I was looking for.
    Price / Performance etc

you would recommend the Abit NF7-S instead?

I'm using it, having no problems. Overclocked my 1800+ to 166x11.5 without a problem, uses Dual Channel RAM, has (good) onboard sound and network. Its also slightly cheaper than the Asus (at least on CPU City it is).

Where you getting it all from?

Couldn't find the NF7-S or a Mobile Barton 2500+ or Corsair XMS3200 512mb on ebuyer. I would recommend cpucity.co.uk as they have most stuff, otherwise I'd use komplett.co.uk. Just my opinion though.

Try to stay away from twinmoss RAM with the asus, it has problems. The only difference between the Abit and asus is more overclocking features on the ABIT and gigabit LAN on the asus.

CPU wise, the barton 2500-m comes highly recommended for overclocking. Memory: corsair/OCZ are really the most expensive. Crucial/adata will do the job for less. Get pc3200 (2x512mb sticks.) Also, it doesnt matter if you dont get dual-channel kits, as they arent really anything special performance wise.

Graphics is probably the most major thing at the moment, well for playing games. i think waiting for the new ATI/nvidia cards is a smart move, and see how they perform against each other and against the cards they replace. Also stick with AGP cards for now, PCI-express will be coming in soon, but it iwll probably have some problems for a while, and cards wont make full use of the new features. Also AGP will be cheaper.

cpucity.co.uk look good, thx for that

Ive got a Sapphire 9700 po .. so that should see me through

Is it not worth going for a higher CPU, or can I OC the 2500 to a decent enough speed?

thx guys for the help btw

    Mobile 2500+ should overclock well.

I thought there were only problems with TwinMOS if it didn't have Winbond? i.e. TwinMOS with Winbond are fine?

    Yes (I think)

The Abit website tells you all about it:

    Serial ATA 150
Serial ATA is an evolutionary replacement for the Parallel ATA storage interface. This new high-speed interface burst data transfer rate up to 150 Mbytes/sec and more flexible power tolerances, cables can be smaller and more efficient.
Serial ATA is SATA isn't it?

My XP-M 2500+ does 2.7GHz on air (default is 1.83GHz), that enough for you?

Another vote for CPU City here & the NF7-S v2.0 although the ASUS is a decent board too.

If you plan on overclocking I would look at PC3500 or 3700 memory.
