Re: Price check on my system

Why don't you just buy a whole load of cheap parts and build yourself a media server or a firewall box or a download box or anything tbh, selling a computer which won't struggle with anything much at the moment to build a new one on finance is just silly (to be very mild).

Because its something i really enjoy doing. I dont have anything to pay for otherwise, i work part time and go to college and travel occasionally, id rather spend my money on something i love than wasting it on alcohol or take outs. The bulk of the money i want to spend on the new system is on the monitor and surround sound system.

Re: Price check on my system

it was an exaggeration but prices for hardware change rapidly so your current system could be worth very little next year but there could be good hardware out that is even cheaper than this generation.

Re: Price check on my system

Sell a PC like that? Why? keep most of it, buy a better PSU, a 45nm CPU (perhaps a QX9650 off ebay?) and a second HD4870X2 and you're done. You could ofc go for a bigger monitor as well. Seriously, a PC that new isn't worth selling - you wouldn't make a profit from doing so.

    Yes i am still interested.
I would wait until next year TBH. The new 32nm processors from Intel and hopefully AMD will be out. Also DX11 should become mainstream too.

Seriously, wait. There isn't enough benefit to sell the whole system, you're throwing so much money away doing that. Your new PC would only have the same graphics card as you already have for a start, as nothing has bettered the 4870X2 (no fanboys telling me otherwise)

Ok, if i wanted to upgrade the pc i have now

Which includes a new HDD, monitor, case, keyboard and cpu cooler / fans

would cost me £817 I dont see the point in spending all of that, when i could just spend double and get a whole new system?

Your current system is good enough for gaming at 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 as it is. Even if you upgraded to a Q9550 you could sell the Q6600 and it would probably mean the upgrade would cost you less than £100. Even a faster 32mb cache 1tb hard drive can be had for under £70. Even another HD4870X2 which would be OTT IMHO would cost you around £240. So in total it would cost you around £400 and destroy almost any game out there today apart from the very poorly coded ones.

TBH even if you upgrade your current system you would be kicking yourself in 6 months time when the newer Intel and AMD CPUs come out and the next generation graphics cards are released from AMD and Nvidia. Upgrading for no real reason is a waste of money especially when you are doing it on credit!!

The best thing is to keep your current system and upgrade it when it starts to struggle. You should have sold your system ages around 6 months ago TBH if you wanted to get a decent amount of cash. The recent massive price drops in both AMD and Intel CPUs and ATI and Nvidia graphics cards has wiped off a lot of the value of your system. The best time to have sold it was in January when the prices of many computers bits rose significantly due to the weak pound.

Re: Price check on my system

The case is fine, or even if it isn't, it's so expensive, the cases I usually recommend for top end systems are typically no more expensive than the cosmos S, if not cheaper, so you if you want a new case you can sell your existing one. Sell your Q6600 on ebay and get a Q9550 for £170 - net cost of that probably no more than £80. WD1001FALS for example is about £65 these days. Adding an extra HD4870X2 is £240. Zalman 1KW PSU is £170 (and overkill, really - I use a q9550 and two X2s off an 850W) and you could probably sell the galaxy for £100. Ultimate cost for the upgrade is easily less than £500. Selling your existing PC and buying a new one to that spec will stand you a LOT more expense.

Re: Price check on my system

I dont want a new GPU, even in the new build i wanted to make was only going to be a 4890 until the DX11 cards came out. Im not really fussed about i5 and i7 is only 3 seconds faster on certain things than a Q9950.

I really hate this case and i would like the same one they use in the black widow builds (TJ07) as that case could be re-used for upgrade upon upgrade, this cosmos S the big fan on the side of the case has gradually fell apart and the fan fins have broken off when ive reshut the case which is pathetic. The monitor i have is really nice but id like a full HD one to get the most out of my games and i could probably sell it at £200 and the new monitor i would like is £210.99 so no big loss there and i would definatly like a new HDD or even a SSD

The whole reason for me wanting an entirely new system isnt to beat this one or i think it'll run better, its more the fact that i love building new computers and the money really isnt a problem.
I've had an offer for this pc for £1500 (but i think its a scam) cause that price is very good, so if it turns out to be real i'll take it because its only £500 more to get the new components i want (which id spend on upgrading this one anyway) so it all works out.

Re: Price check on my system

So you're going to downgrade from a 4870X2 to a 4890 - this is making less and less sense.
I've not had any issues with the fans in the HAF932 I'm currently using, but it is immediately obvious that the build quality of all coolermaster cases is pretty mediocre.
If you want to build a new PC so be it, but seriously, you're throwing away hundreds of pounds for the sake of spending slightly longer with the rebuild. That's hard to swallow.
Also, your PC isn't worth anywhere near £1500. That offer probably was a scam.

Re: Price check on my system

I was going to use a 4890 until the DX11 cards came out as id be wasting even more money buying another 4870x2 or 2x 4890s then finding out the DX11 cards came out a few months later.

Another member on here valued it at about £1080 and i'd probably get more if i sold it seperatly.
Ive been watching some of the hardware i have, on ebay thats for sale from other people and his estimates are near so i wouldnt really mind spending around £800 considering the main cost would be peripherals
