So... what are you planning to upgrade in readiness for Win7?

    Personally i just stuck in a further 2 x 2GB to add to the 2 x 1GB sticks i already had in.
WinXP says i have 3.50GB RAM
And i'd lurve to add in an SSD, but i reckon they'll keep falling in price, so i'll wait.

I run Vista, so upgrading to Windows 7 should have the same impact as buying a new system. That said, I'll keep a close eye on the Core i5 since it seems the best performance for the money and maybe consider upgrading early next year.

Re: So... what are you planning to upgrade in readiness for Win7?

I'm planning on building a new system based around the i5 and a SSD. Figured it would be worth a clean start. I'm surprised I haven't reinstalled Windows on this machine for over 2 years!

Re: So... what are you planning to upgrade in readiness for Win7?

I'll not be moving to W7 on my desktop until I get an SSD. Partly because W7 will take advantage of it and I don't want to have multiple re-installs.

(yes I could image the drive, but this would be 'cleaner')

Re: So... what are you planning to upgrade in readiness for Win7?

On a laptop running RC, and just built a desktop which will receive the RTM version. Laptop will have to be rolled back to XP eventually, sadly, because I'm too stingy to buy a licence for a computer which already has 2 (XP + Vista upgrade).

I'll be upgrading my parents' desktop in their home to Win7 as well (it's a Pentium Dual-Core E5200), and I am confident it will run well on their hardware (it has a GeForce 9300 IGP). I built the thing with 4GB of RAM and the 32-bit XP just won't cut it

Re: So... what are you planning to upgrade in readiness for Win7?

Not really intending to do anything - I want a new graphics card and an SSD, but I'm not in any particular rush to upgrade at the moment because I don't have enough time to spend on the PC right now anyway. Besides, it's still a fairly decent system, ignoring the 8800 GTS.

It will be upgraded to Windows 7 as soon as my disk arrives though, due in most part to the fact that my machine desperately needs a new OS install and I've been holding off for quite a while now in anticipation of 7.

    Nada.

For once I'm getting a retail version so can upgrade as much as I like after the fact.

Not planning any upgrades to my Q6600 or my sons 4600X2 system until after Win7 with possible upgrade to memory.

I have a GD-65 already, just waiting on the TRUE bracket for LGA1156 and then I'll be going for some 1600MHz Gskills or Corsairs and an i5-750

Re: So... what are you planning to upgrade in readiness for Win7?

    Hmmm:

Gaming (Q6600, ASUS P5N32-E SLI, 4GB DDR2-800, 8800 GTX) - Nothing. It's lovely just as it is, and smooches Windows 7 something chronic (no, really...)

HTPC (Sempron 140, ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO, 2GB ECC DDR3-1333, HD4200 IGP) - Hard drive. It's currently running with a spare low-capacity (40GB?) IDE I had lying around: when my pre-ordered Windows 7 Home Premium arrives I'll be investing in a decent-sized (640GB+) SATA drive.

Office (See "My System") - I'm very tempted to pick up another 512MB of DDR-400 and see how it takes to Windows 7. My only concern would be that I'd have to rely on non-supported Legacy ATI drivers since they don't provide official Win7 drivers for anything prior to the 2x00s...
