If you are not overclocking then the stock cooler will do the job very well!!

The 770 based motherboard I mentioned lacks integrated graphics and also has an enhanced 8+2 phase power regulation circuit for the CPU as opposed to the 4+1 in the motherboard you have linked too.

I would get the 770 based motherboard as the 8+2 phase power regulation circuit is better than a 4+1 one.

Re: A not so confused lady needs updating...

Just as an aside, my wife's last PC upgrade was a Shuttle. You can only use a single slot gpu (she has an AMD 4670) and although that box can take a 955BE it won't overclock it as it isn't rated for the 965BE. Only two ram slots which are DDR2, limited space for hard drives.

But still, nice & quiet and looks lovely

Sounds like a perfectly average girl to me - the only reason I've got a Core 2 Quad + 8800GTX sitting around is because my wife insisted on having a beast built (after I'd finished she disowned it, sadly, but that's another story...)

Anyway, from what you've said I'm guessing your existing case is an original Antec Sonata, which is one of the most beautiful mid-tower cases ever built. I put a server in one for a client a few years back when they still came with an in-case airflow guide - it was a pain to work with but the concept was so unutterably cool that I couldn't resist it. Sadly the newer revisions seem to have done away with that...

And you'll never score any epeen points with that graphics card. I assume a new one will be on the shopping list before too long...?

I'm not made of money!!! I'd rather it look crap and run like the clappers than look lovely and ber as slow as a snail though... I will invest in a nice silverstone case at some point, but not at the moment

and shuttles are a bit wimpy. Never really liked them. Good concept, but just not my thing.

Looks at Shuttle and thinks - wait a sec I have a dual slot graphics card in there!!

The Shuttle P2 and H7 series can take dual slot graphics cards. Just ask the people who managed to shoehorn a GTX295 into an SX58H7!!

I seemed to have missed this thread somehow!

Casewise what are we talking about size wise?

If your not fussed on size there is a Silverstone TJ06 with your name on it

We weren't actually discussing a case, but I forgot about that...

My name on it how? Do I just say yes and I can pick it up in a couple of weekends, or do I need to increase my rastaloan (tm)

although a full tower is pretty hefty Might just stick to my antec for now.

I can front you some lan foods... that's nae problem.

I was looking for a desktop case, but I think that might go on hold until next year (when the rastaloan(tm) will be paid off too)
