    Re: cross fire ati 5850

But btw. If you really wanted to crossfire was that for the 6 ports or the performance?
i did want 6 ports but i can make do with 3 plus if i had 6 id need 2 converters now.

Since this is for an audio workstation, really, two 5750's (as in, no intensive 3d work) would do the job just as well
if it was just for audio then yes. but i want to play games and a friend needs to use 3dmax as well.

    Re: cross fire ati 5850

i had a read of the eyefinity in depth look and it say even if you get two cards even with crossfire it wont work.
    Hardware:
ATI Radeon™ GPU with support for DirectX 11, with appropriate display outputs
    ATI CrossFireX™ Technology:
At this time only the horsepower of one graphics card can be used to drive ATI Eyefinity
technology for gaming, even when combined with ATI CrossFireX technology. The ATI Catalyst
software team is working to address this.

If you look the top one is not an adaptor it's just a DP cable probably running to a DP monitor.

    I think that's a 5970

    (DP = Display port)

    Re: cross fire ati 5850

    5870 or 5970 then.
id probably go for a 5870 if i never had to buy one of these bloody converters.

If you look the top one is not an adaptor it's just a DP cable probably running to a DP monitor.
so i see and the next one to it.

    I think that's a 5970
and i do but the ones you can buy at scan dont have 6 display ports and id not fancy buying 6 converts to use them either.

No, that's an engineering sample which AMD was banding about to demonstrate how big eyefinity could really get (and they got it BIG). They'll probably release that 6xMini-DP variant when DP achieves greater market penetration (more innuendo for Madduck to get sweaty over ).

The problem seems to revolve around the DP to DVI adapter though? Currently using my DVI Dual Link cable still but might try the DP connection tonight out of curiosity. It will be a straight DP to DP connection though for the main screen with DVI on the other two.
