Help with my build please guys

    Afternoon people,

I am looking to build a new system in the next couple of weeks and would like you feedback on my choices. I also have a few questions I know you guys will eb able to answer.

It is going to be used for gaming and would like it to last as long as possible. I have already decided on getting a 5850 unsure of which modle to get, probs just which ever one is instock unless there is a good reason in waiting for a certian one to come into stock.

    Processor is a i5 750

Mobo http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...-20-and-30-ATXIs it worth getting a mobo with the new speed usb and sata ports on as i would prefer not to have to upgrade my mobo for a few years.

is it worth getting the Corsair H50 even though I probably wont be doing any overclocking, I wouldnt mind the overhead there incase I do decide to play around but I could upgrade to this later down the line.

I like the look of this case http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Fract...-inc-Front-I-O as cable management on the mobo tray is what am looking for. any other suggestions for around that proce would be welcome.

this is the power supply i have chosen http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/650W-...-Certification again any other alternitaves are welcome.

and finally my ram choice http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-%...S-9-9-9-24-DHX

I dont need a optical drive or any hard drives atm but I am looking to get an SSD soon.

At the moment my build is £896 I would like to keep it under £900 but its not essential.

Cheers people all of your help is much appriciated

Re: Help with my build please guys

I think you'll find that none of this works without a CPU

Since thats a socket 1156 board I take it youa re looking at the Core i5 or Core i7 processor?

You could save some money and get a quieter PSU with the Enermax 525W Modu82+
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/525W-...uard-SafeGuard
    That Corsair is solid though

That case looks good but seems a tad pricy

Re: Help with my build please guys

TBH,I would replace the E6750 with a quad core and get a new PSU for the computer the OP currently has.

The MSI P35 Neo supports 45NM Intel Core2 quad processors:

    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=pro...5&maincat_no=1

    I would get a Q9400 or a Q9550:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

The Q9550 would be a big improvement over an E6750:

Re: Help with my build please guys

I would also upgrade your current rig rather than building a new one. I have a very similar setup, and with the cpu overclocked to 3.2GHz (with a slight undervolt) and a graphics upgrade to my GTX275, I haven't come across a game that it struggles with at 1650x1080.

Assuming this is for gaming I would upgrade (in order) psu and graphics together, then cpu (or overclock), then ssd if you can afford it. Personally I plan on skipping i7 entirely and waiting for Sandy bridge, unless ofcourse there is a killer game/ app my system can't handle!

I was looking at overclocking my current rig but I want to build a new one as Im moving into a new house soon and after that a dont think I will be able to upgrade for a very long time. I want to do it while i have some spare cash.

Kmac I dont mind paying a bit more for that case as i like the look of it are there any others you know around that price which have decent cable management options?

sorry for the late reply guys ive been very busy

I would go for the socket 1156 Core i7 860 as it has HT and IMHO in the long-term this should would be a better choice!

One of these motherboards should do the job:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/174565

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/174674

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173535

TBH,unless you need SLI or Crossfire support I would not spend more than a £100 or thereabouts on the motherboard.

    4GB (2x2GB) CorsairTwinX XMS3, DDR3 PC3-10666
    1GB XFX HD 5850 XXX

    Agreed!!

I would probably look at the forthcoming HD5830 too. Hopefully it will have lower power consumption and decent performance even when compared to an HD5850.

Re: Help with my build please guys

The fractal case is very nice as mentioned in that review, yes it's default cooling is weak, that's because it's default cooling is set for low noise, not a high air flow gaming case.
However by removeing the fan vent covers and putting some extra fans in there that case will cool far better.

Personally I'd look at the Lancool K58

get a couple fo extra 140mm fans for it and a gromit kit

Re: Help with my build please guys

    kmac cheers for that review.

I really like this case and I laughed at the fact that the review said some people dont want a case that looks like a ufo on their desk and thats exactly why I like that case.

Im not bothered about noise so I was probably going to bolt at least another 3 fans into the case at least one of them being on the top.

after Ive added these fans it might hover like a ufo but @ least it wont light the whole of my street up.

I have read the comments at the end of the post and a few people have said that a few more fans will make a hell of a difference.

after buysing the case and the fans its going to push the price upto about £120 but I want it and its been a while since ive seen a case which ticks so many boxes.

Cheers for all the input guys its much appriciated.

I think I'm going to go for the i7 with the asus mobo, fractal case and more fans and the 1600 RAM I'll let every one know how I get on once I've got everything and put it together.

    Thanks again
