There's something seriously wrong with this benchmark then if you get the same frame rate with a 5870 as I do with a 4770. Then there's the 9600GT which gets over double FPS that we get.. Hmm.

With a HD5870 I am getting average and max of 60fps....even with vsync disabled within the demo....hmmmm

When I turn Physx on (8600GTS as secondary) the framerate goes to 40 max 28 average. So they are either hobbling physx when ATI card is primary (within the app for those of us who have hacked the driver check!) or an 8600GTS is too slow for the Physx to even be set at low.

If the amount of Physx its using needs that much power, I am wondering what it's doing because the differences I can spot between Physx on and off seems minimal....

in the resolution setting are you selecting a 60khz mode? that could be overriding the V-sync


PhsyX effects on low, seem to be the little rock chips getting blown off the cover and the energy blobs coming off explosions, they bounce off other objects and re-react with other explosions.
Having seen the other PhysX clips of this game you'd need to turn it up higher than low to see the rest.

Oh Pob meant he could only select Off or Low?

I uninstalled it and deleted the setup file so I can't check it myself. That's pretty odd then. To be honest, I don't get this benchmark at all, the little play through looks terrible too.

Think of it like the first scene from 3DMark06 execpt this is to show off PhysX effects, although that's sort of ruined if you can only have it on Low

Ok after some digging

You can't select High or Medium PhysX settings in this benchmark.
APEX Turbulence effects can not be calculated on CPU, so they were ommitted in benchmark

Way to go on a benchmark to show off PhysX


Also, Alt+enter to go to full screen mode, in windowed mode windows is probably causeing Vsync so caping fps.

Being a UE3 engine game, it mostly like has b_frameratesmoothing enabled, probably set to 62 FPS max like most other UE3 games by default. To change this, open up the bench's .ini file in your documents\games\[darkvoidbench] folder and change the limit. Its not Vsync its a frame cap, but the end result behaves similarly.

I think the Physx really is a shambles in this demo.

Tried a few more things and noticed that my framerate doesn't change when Physx is enabled regardless of whether I bench in 1280x768 or all the way to 2560x1600....I guess it's being PPU-limited on low with a 8600GTS dedicated to Physx....considering how little we are seeing, I am flabbergasted!

I think the whole benchmark is a shambles, I've been seeing so many different resaults that make little sense.

I also think that the Cryostatis tech demo showed physX off far better, it's used everyware in that game
