Nah, you get a refurb. In otherwords, someone elses faulty HDD which they've fixed.
On the two occasions I've had to return HDD's, the Refurb I've got has come out of the machine to act simply as a secondary back up device in an ext. enclosure or in a non-primary use PC. One I think I put back in just to act as a download device for unimportant data.
I'd certainly never use a refurb drive as a primary drive or primary backup drive.
Yes it might be a refurb drive, but it comes with a warrenty and I have such drives still in use.
Have also had drives replaced with new because the original drive could not be replaced with a drive like for like, so I ended up with something newer and faster.
For the cost of postage I think it is always worth sending a drive back, though the return can take ages so I also always buy a new drive as well.
I sent a Samsung drive back earlier this year and got what appeared to be a new one returned within 3 days. Service varies by manufacturer.
Thanks for your replies.
I probably didn't explain clearly enough in my original post.
If you received a replacement (new or a different refurbished) would you receive the faulty one back to dispose of or would they dispose of it/pass on to someone else a a refurbished item
Thanks for taking your time toreplies.
I wasn't sure in the replies whether people were refering to the original hdd being fixed or in general as I hadn't taken into consideration that the faulty hdd could be fixed and I wanted to clarify the situation.
Sorry for taking your time up and for your paitence
