    Question Overclocking a P4 3.2c Processor

Has anyone got any information on overclocking a P4 3.2c Processor, I am using a P4P800 Deluxe 'Springdale' Motherboard.

If any has any links it would be fantastic.

    Thanks

If it's similar to my p4c800 mobo you can let the bios overclock it 5 or 10% for you. Worked ok for me but my case is well ventilated, just watch the temperatures.

    Hi
First you need to realise that P4's are multipler locked, this means overclocking the processor has to be done via upping the fsb. And second you need a good HSF, the stock one is ok, but i wouldnt try and overclock very much with it.

    What RAM are you using?

As its a P4 (800fsb thats 200fsb - as P4 C's are quad pumped [4x200]) so you need pc3200 to run it synced for best performance. (If you dont run the RAM synced with the processor there will be a delay when the memory and processer communicate.) For high overclocking you really want to get pc3700 or higher of good branded RAM. This will allow you to go to 233fsb before you are actually overclocking the RAM

When you are overclocking you may find that the computer does not boot, or is not stable (i.e. windows doesnt load, games crash to desktop, or restart computer.) This is most likely to mean that you need to put some more voltage through the CPU, or the memory. This will increase temperatures, and may damage hardware in the long term.

Hope that makes some sense to you......
    Will

Hi Famished, you should take a look at this thread I started a while back all about how to overclock P4Cs - your 3.2 will be the same although I wouldn't expect you to hit high FSBs on air cooling - I think getting it over 3.7 on air would be very lucky.

Anyway, overclocking the CPU is easy, however memory complicates things so if you've just got standard memory you may need to set the divider to 5:4 if it doesn't like being overclocked much at 1:1.

Anyways read the thread, that should answer a lot of your questions!
