Re: Help with new CPU cooler please!!!

really based on how much you wish to spend.

    $35ish price range
    corsair a70
    cooler master hyper 212
    xigmatek dark knight

    $60ish price range
    thermaltake frio
    cooler master v6 gt

mega and ven-x are also good but require two after market fans, best two in my opinion are gentle typoon 14 and gentle typhoon 15, but after buying fans + heatsink your in the $80+ category so it makes more sense to get the noctua or silver arrow in my opinion.

    $80+
    you have the
    noctua d14
    thermalright silver arrow
    corsair h70

with the h70 the fans work just about as good as any aftermarket fans but they are extremely loud, the d14 and silver arrow run near silent.

silver arrow is the best air cooler you can get, however its about only 1-2c better then the noctua but it is quieter then then noctua.

but if you feel the noctua and silver arrow are too big, id suggest getting the thermalright venomous x and two gentle typhoon 15 fans.

one guy with same case using noctua d14. not sure how it fits blowing out the back though
so it does look to be quite a tight fit..

    id suggest http://www.scan.co.uk/products/therm...75-without-fan
    and two of these fans,
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120mm...pm-cooling-fan
its right up there almost on par of the silver arrow/noctua d14.

but i believe they will still fit if your ok with them being such a tight fit. i have the silver arrow and actually hear its a tad bit smaller then the noctua.

Re: Help with new CPU cooler please!!!

Skuzzzzy you are a god send, I'm leaning more towards the thermalright silver arrow I've been reading up on both the cooler after your introduction, and from what I've read the thermalright silver arrow is better I'm sure you'd agree as you have one, to my next question I'm having problem finding where I can order one, I live in the UK, Scan has them but it as been overdue since 10 September 2010.

thx you again for you're help

i actually went with the silver arrow only because of the looks lol. the performance of the two are really to close to choose one over the other. i will say that the d14 has better ram clearance then then silver arrow

also ive read the included thermal paste that comes with noctua is really good stuff, so in reality you dont need to purchase any paste.

and if you can get the d14 to fit the way a normal heatsink sink sits that would be more ideal then facing up.

My vote goes to the thermaltake frio. Best Air cooler imo.

i think its the best for its price range but its clearly not better then the d14, ven x, silver arrow. and i really hate its mounting system.

It's better than the venemous x according to bit-tech, not sure about the other two but I've seen it rated as the best cooler out currently.

well d14, silver arrow arent in those testing. ven-x is tested with one fan vs's the frio's two. its probably the stock ven-x fan and i suggest getting the oem version of the ven-x + two better fans.

and i really dont trust them as far as testers. 14c is impossible.

not that i really believe these results aswell being so low at 4ghz, it shows about the correct differences in celsius between the different coolers.

Re: Help with new CPU cooler please!!!

OK to start off with, if your listed system is still correct you're running a core2duo e8400 which doesn't put out a massive amount of heat or need a massively high end cooler.

So I'd say a coolermaster hyper 212 plus
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...m2-am2plus-am3
for £20 it's easily the best low cost cooler in the £20 or less price range, if you correctly setup the PWM settings in your BIOS it will be slient.
I copes very well on my i5 750 with the fan at a silent 860rpm when idle

Unfortunately it's not quiet enough to get the free shipping from scan so you might want to consider Play.com instead http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/117187...k/Product.html slightly more but with free postage it's actually slightly less.
