You still need write speed for browser caches, etc. How much of an effect that has I'm not sure. This of course assumes people have dumped their page file onto a different drive, safe practice for an SSD.
As much as I would dearly like to have Steam on an SSD, I would need at least a 180GB SSD to do it, a bit out of my price range at the moment
Correct practise would be to put the page file on the SSD - they're ideal for page file operations and you're not going to run out of write operations in a usual product lifetime.Originally Posted by sammorris

I stopped folding ages ago but the general consensus is you need a graphics card, not a CPU, and it has to be a geforce else it's worthless.
The CPU client offers up bonus points however and while I'm not completely sure on this, PPD/Watt wise a 95W hexcore is probably more efficient than GTX460.

yeah I know that thanks. I have a 9800GTX atm which will do 6kppd and I reckon I could go from 4.5kppd with my current CPU to around 7-8k with an x6.

Assuming you're running the equivalent of an X4 630, then yeah, upgrading to the 95W Quad will raise the points from that by another half, so you'll be looking at around 6500-7000ppd for the CPU.
Nah it's effectively a 955 at 3.1 but it only does 3.1 as it's an unlock and it manages 4.5kppd. a 1055T will do 13.5kppd at 3.5ghz.
How did you work that out?
I make it (3.5/3.1) * (6/4) * 4500 = 7620.
13,500 is a long way off.

That's what people seem to be getting, those calculations tend not to work out anyway. More like 13k at 3.8 I guess but still.
