I think a SB i5 2500K popped up on oyyy.co.uk this morning for ~£188. Hastily removed of course.

Since you seem to know quite a bit, I was wondering when the new SB comes out and the supported mobo, will it out perform i7 950 and the rampage III extreme?

If the answers don't help, give us a specific usage scenario

Ermm I was going to build a new rig from scratch using "i7 950, 8GB ram, nvidia 570 and the rampage III extreme" etc as the benchmark results, reviews etc was high.

However since the new generation of the technology i.e. the new sandy bridge and sockets will be releasing soon, I might as well wait and see what surprise it has in store for us.

My conclusion is: will the new generation of technology out perform the specs which I was initially going to buy?

Does that make sense what I'm trying to say?

    Re: Intel Sandy Bridge Thread

For gaming i think yes would be a fair answer, basing my guess on the SB preview results.

No, because you didn't give a specific usage scenario like I asked

You later say gaming, in which case, yes, good Sandy Bridge chips will be faster than the i7 950.

Definitely going with a 2500k and cheap p67 motherboard after seeing those reviews. Reckon is worth spending more on a 570 or go for a 6950 for 1920x1200 res gaming?
