Intel are probably charging more for them (USB3 and SATA6)....plus they have to add the additional cost of a PCI-E to PCI bridge.

I guess we may see some cheaper non-legacy boards with no PCI, ATA or floppy connectors. In fact, I cannot see why we haven't already seen some boards with only PCI-E, SATA and USB connections.

Sandy bridge is looking expensive! I can't help but feel some of these boards are overpriced?

H67 has onboard gfx, allows the use of quick-sync, and doesn't allow you to increase the multiplier of CPU's, even unlocked chips.

P67 is essentially the opposite, yet costs more.

    Intel are butt-****ing you basically.

Some people would glady pay extra for that....

Has there been any official statement yet? Am i naive to think there is/will be some sort of fix or workaround for this (assuming hardware allows)

Ouch. I thought they just locked the memory multiplier, not the CPU multi. Turns out to be the other way around :/

Looks like we need a Z68 + lucid software to do everything we want.

    Re: Intel Sandy Bridge Thread

    Hi guys,

Just seen that Scan have but up Sandy Bridge prices etc, and my credit card is getting itchy after seeing the OCing article on Bittech yesterday.

I wondered what everyones opinion is on the motherboards on offer.

    The Bit-tech piece used a Asus P8P67 Deluxe, a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4 and a MSI P67A GD55

Currently a have a P5K Deluxe, so the natural step might be to go for the Deluxe Asus again. but I havent been all that pleased with it and it has given me some issues. I saw the UD3 from Gigabyte on scan at 110.

    I'm having difficulty with

    Gigabyte - UD3 versus UD3P versus UD4 versus UD7
    Asus - P8P67 versus P8P67 PRO versus P8P67 Deluxe

The Bittech overclocking guide wasnt so complementary about MSi's new BIOS so I've ruled thouse out for now,

Currently I'm thinking of going for the Gigabyte UD4 at £147, or the Asus Pro at £142, but it would be nice to know what I'm getting over the UD3/Basic Asus P67 one.

Hope you can help Didn't think this was worth starting a new thread for.

    Re: Intel Sandy Bridge Thread

The gigabyte and asus websites both have comparison features allowing you to check the differences. The main differences between the Pro/UD4 and more basic models are SLI support, more power phases for overclocking (probably only relevant once at the 5k mark), more USB 2/3 hubs and e-sata capability.

    http://techreport.com/articles.x/20190/15

is a very good read on the differences between the main vendors of p67 motherboards.

It looks like Sandy Bridge maybe more fragile than the socket 1156 and socket 1366 processors if you are overclocking:

    Re: Intel Sandy Bridge Thread

You know I feel genuinely sorry for the hundreds of thousands of people who bought the previous generation of Intel CPUs

This first-generation is still fantastic, and the performance difference is fairly modest, but to go from cutting edge to obsolete motherboard is just too brutal in my view.

Technology might be accelerating, but human beings remain the same. I think Intel should have brought out some new interesting CPUs based on the old motherboard and not have a major upgrade cycle for at least 18 months or so.
