I'm not. It's a sampling issue.

If you survey a gaming site like Steam, or hardware site like ours, you are almost inevitably going to see results that indicate a bias towards the high end. It's not surprising when you consider that for that type of user, hardware spec is a priority. In fact, it may be a hobby or even an obsession.

You'll get much the same bias in results if you asked on these types of sites about users with an SSD, and then asked again in the wider world. Except that in the wider world, they may well ask what the hell an SSD is.

If you looked at total computer sales you'd find that the number of pc's with seperate graphics cards was pretty low look at steam and it'll be the vast majority.

My other half uses my old e6600 (still going at @3.0ghz) all she uses it for is internet and photoshop work and really doesn't need anything more.

This is about HEXUS forum members not the average person who wouldn't know or care about whether they had half a core or a billion cores!

The fact that this kind of website is visited by people who tend to be more interested in technology is not so far fetched!

Oh dear, I'm afraid I'm going to mess the vote figures up a bit as I'm currently on my home PC that's running an old Celeron Northwood 2.4Ghz single core massively overclocked at 2.5Ghz.

Looking on the bright side whatever I upgrade to when I build my new PC, whether 2,3,4 or possibly even 6 cores then things can only get better.

still on core2duo. i've always held belief that dual core is great for gaming and surfing net, but the latest 2 games i've been playing (mass effect 2 and cod:blops) have literally maxed out my cpu every second i'm playing, 3Ghz dual core is now the bottleneck. quad core or above is now essential i think for any new build, or 2 cores w/HT as an ABSOLUTE minimum

I'm guessing, but that guess would be that as the question was about the number of processor cores, not processor type, and Core i5 can be 2 or 4 cores, that it "Core i5 here" doesn't really answer the question, though the vote presumably did.

As a side note, does it not feel good knowing if you have a quad-core your set-up, CPU wise, for the majority of the programs in the foreseeable future?

I'm still running an engineering sample QX6700 on my workstation.

However, my Toshiba laptop now gets more use than that, and it's a i3-330M, making it 2 hyperthreaded cores.

Then again, for my research I work with processors that come in single, dual and quad core form, with 8 threads per core

Interesting... I've voted quad as that's theoretically what powers my gaming rig, but I do the vast majority of my steam gaming on my htpc and laptop, which are both single core. But I also have dual core pcs in the house. So perhaps there should be a poll option for a bit of everything
