I'm the only one who voted for 2 cores with HT (At the time of posting) :O
The others consist of a dual core (E5200) and a triple core (Athlon II X3 435)
I wonder if the people on Steam are all those with high end custom pcs though, from the report, I reckon it's more a proportion of those with prebuilt systems with a lowly quad core (think of a Q8XX series or the Athlon II X4 series) and others are running a custom built pc from about 2 year ago (so think of the Q6600 along with the ATi HD4000 series). I reckon these would be larger majority and that people with i7s and Sandybridge would be a smaller proportion. But obviously this is just my first thought.
Most are single hyperthreaded, the n550, 330 and D510 are dual core hyperthreaded

He runs work servers and has many many many cores folding for team hexus, so total cores he'd have upwards of 50 if that counts

Well the question was because they bought it knowing they might have 3 cores.
Not really, answer is 8 cores. However, to get good balance of the shared FPU & cache it sounds like it will be flagged in hardware as 4 core HT to give a hint to the process scheduler.This question will get quite hard to answer when bulldozer arrives!
The answers not that straightforward - it's 4 core w.r.t. 256 FP operations, and nearer 16+ core for Int operations!
Core blimey!! A lot of Hexus members have a quad core!
