Tizz it is quite a bit OTT in this thread but they aren't great PSUs.

A decent 350W enermax will be much more effective than any 550W Q-Tec unit as it will have tighter voltages, be more relieable and much more of an investment. With the system your talking about running a good brand PSU is pretty much as important as the components because they are fairly top end-ish.

If you think Q-Tec can be bad you should see E-Buyer value

I replaced one where there was GLUE that has MELTED inside the PSU and dripped on the inerds. Now why the hell they needed to affix components with what looked like pretty bog standard PVA or something I will never know...

You see, I couldn't get my floppy drive working, so I FORCED the power connector onto the floppy drive and then sparks came, of course I did this when the power was on.

Warning: Never play with your PSU when its on!

I've had both plenty of Qtec's and they have all worked fine, I have also had some Ebuyer Value too, no complaints.

Bah, I'm hotwiring/hotmodding fans all the time! You can also hotswap floppy drives - something we used to do all the time when rebuilding machines at my old school (on which half the floppy drives were wrecked due to floppy locks that were badly designed.)

However, none of them had Q-Tec PSU's...

*Also, I don't actually advise working on a computer when on, I'm just mad enough to do it.

I have a cheapo 300W psu that came with my £10 case i got from ebuyer this week.

I'm gonna see if it can hack a 1.75V Thunderbird @ 1333=133*10. I'm ramming it in my old mobo - msi 6341 (AMD 761/Via Southbridge). Now I bought it 4 years ago now, and it was marketed as a server mainboard so the voltage/multiplier controls are crap (+/- 0.1V about the processor's indicated and +/- 2* multiplier @ 0.5* incriments, and finally 100-150 FSB in 4 MHz incriments). But this is where the fun starts - I'll soon get bored of the crappy old thunderbird which will max at about 1.5GHz I reckon. I'm prolly gonna go for a Thoroughbred B 1500+ Mobile from cpu city. I'm aiming for 16*144=2.3GHz on a cool day on a £10 aero 7 lite. I'm gonna have to pinmod it everytime I want to increase the multiplier and the voltage (my dad wont get much arctic silver left ). Also I'm gonna lap the northbridge + heatsink. I just wanna see what it will take to toast the crappy 300W psu!

Please note, fire extinguisher will be on hand throughout.
