Not sure what part of the link you were referencing to but I couldn't find any additional info about the rest of the Xonar range or if they required the additional power cable in all 21 pages of that review, interesting read though

The "whats wrong" is that I have gone to great lengths to keep the cabling clean and tidy inside my new system and this additional cabling isn't really something I want run across the front on my motherboard//case window. I know it might seem silly but I don't want to ruin all of my hard work with some huge ugly extra connectors that I wouldn't need if I was able to find a DDL supporting soundcard that would be powered directly from the motherboard.

Fair enough, sorry - I had misread the review.

Its ok - I forgive you

I've been looking at the Striker 7.1 card by Ht-Omega, does anyone know if these are any good? It seems a lot of people on the Astro forums are using them.

You could of shaved it off the case instead
My main point was just to see if it was the bezel or something in the drive bay that was blocking it, the bezel sprung to mind from your photos, I've had the exact same issues before but with optical drives, granted they are much cheaper to replace so warranty is less of an issue.

The asus DX like the 2DX does use a 4pin floppy power connector (you can see it in the corner of the card) bit odd really as they seem to increase power demand, it could well be done in the same way many graphics cards don't strictly need two pci-e connectors, it's done to spread the load and make it easier to filter out additional noise from the power.

Yeah it's just done to get a cleaner supply less affected by other loads on the motherboard rail.

    I went for this:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/creat...sound-card-usb

and I've been suitably impressed. Works well with my Denon & B&W Setup. Being external you won't have any fitment issues. According to the features page on Creative's website it does Dolby Digital Live.
