Installing a Sata hard drive

Hi,

I am about to embark on building a Shuttle SB75G2, and I want to install a SATA hard drive, and windows XP.

My question is, I am assuming I still have to install the SATA drivers from floppy to be able to load XP?? (or can I alter the BIOS settings?)

The motherboard is shuttles FB75, which has integral SATA connectors.It uses intel 875p northbridge, and ICH5r southbridge.
I would like to fit a Hitachi deskstar 7k250 160GB sata150 HD.

I`ve had a look at Shuttles` download page, and the two applicable downloads listed appear to be for Raid installation. Does anyone know if the standard SATA drivers are on either of these downloads, or do I use the RAID drivers for standard installation?
I`ve also checked Hitachi`s website, and couldn`t find any downloads for SATA drivers.

This is my first Pc build, so any info would be gratefully recieved!

So thats a P$ mobo... I asume it uses the intel onboard raid... Try this link! When you instal windows hit F6, but first make the driver floppy...

You will always need drivers for sata! You must have instaled an ide...

I didnt either and my drive is a sata just enabled in bios and away it went, no probs

A question for ultimate and wol.... what make/model SATA HD`s are you using? are they in shuttles too?

I have two hard drives, one a Seagate SATA and the other a Samsung SATA, and both install XP fresh perfectly just using the CD. I think you only have to use 3rd party drivers if you have a RAID setup, not a normal SATA setup.

Mine is a Maxtor, Model 6Y120M0 and it is fitted in Soltek Qbic 3801a sff

Ok, so yous mean to tell me you stuck a new Sata hard drive in you PC and stuck the XP cd in the rom drive and instaled a fresh copy of windows with out hiting F6? You didnt already have windows on it... right? Am I the only one here who has to hit F6?

you dont ALWAYS need SATA drivers, it depends weather XP can detect your drive with its own drivers, if not then, you need a floppy, ok?

Ive got a SB75G2 iirc and a Hitachi Deskstar 74kwhateveritis. Im just about to add a maxtor maxline 3 though as they look great

Yep myth, you got it in one only difference as I can see that you are using an intel setup as mine is amd, amd 64 3000 but the drive is recognised on a fresh install and also when added to another machine with xp already running, after formatting of course

col if its not to late, i'd just like to point out that seagate and maxtor are the same sort of money as the deskstar, and both are renouned for reliablility

you wont need drivers on a floppy for xp, just enable in bios and install as normal
