While the first part of your post is more or less true (if you overlook the fact that there is no such thing as a "standard AMD64", as well as the fact that there are often exceptions), the second point of your post is way off base. Also, ALL Opterons, S754 A64s, S940 FXs, S939 FXs and S939 A64s could be considered "standard AMD64s".

Anyway, you really need to do some reading. Get your arse over to XS.org and read the AMD Stickies...there are many.

Sorry "BluThunda" , but the P4 gets it's arse handed to it by just about ANY AMD64 based chip.
yeah thats great m8 but old technology sometimes beats new tech! like a spitfire - it beats a new technology meshersmit.

Yeah, but the life expectancy for an airplane is 20-30 years+, not 7 months as in the computer market. I fail to see how a P4 is a spitfire, etc. Not the best analogy now, is it.

You should really try having a point before you argue it.

As for my understanding of the standard AMD64's was for AMD 64 Pin-754 and Pin-939, becasue he ask which was faster between standard AMD64's and Opterons.

You should read the first message. page 1.

But the correct answer is Opterons ARE AMD64s.

    Too clear things up

Main Difference between Std A64's inc FX's & Opterons is the fact
Opterons have 3 hypertransport links for the SMP capabilities of going
    multi-processor.

And from my understanding as well Opterons actually run a slower memory clock
so actually slower in essance then the FX range but faster than socket 754 64's.

Anyway... here is a url for a site that compares Intel 3.2 with AMD 3.2 & opterons all together....enjoy
