REMINDER: Processor price cut is due soon

Just a reminder folks, both AMD and Intel are due to launch new models next week and that often coincides with a price cut. If you were thinking of ordering a new processor this weekend, hold off for one more week and see what happens.

There's no guarantee that you'll save money, but it looks likely.

Opteron x52 is 90nm, yep. Intel have new desktop processors out next week or so, along with some new Xeons soon too.

Apparently the new Opty will be an E stepping Rys? Any insider information on when we see E stepping desktop chips?

If Intel are releasing new desktop processors, that usually coincides with a price drop for the rest of the range. Even if AMD have no new desktop processor to launch, they're likely to drop prices just to match up with Intel.

Generally most things go down by a couple of $ or so - if there's a decent speed bump at the top end then things can come down a fair amount - they like to keep standard pricepoints and move older models down the price ladder to allow for newer ones at the top.

The price change has finally hit the UK.
Check out the dabs web site.
I ordered a Athlon 63 3000 at a bargain price. It is a replacement for my Tyan dual motherboard that died last month.

Am I right in saying Intel's new models will be the much anti-hyped 600 series/3.7ghz EE?

Intel really need to get their bloody arses in gear, or they'll go down the IBM compacany route.

Yep, how can you resist 'Intel Inside'....

Seriously though, their Intel Inside advertising scheme has been hugely successful in the past. But, I think AMD are reaching out to modern computer users, and I can't help but feel Intel need to update their advertising with something ultra modern.

3800+ has had a huge drop. From a shade over £400 to about £250 now

If you want good speed at stock might be worth looking at.

According to rumors the AMD 4200+ is set for iminent release with new memory controller revision possibly that will finally allow 512 * 4 @ 400ddr and 1T + supports SEE3 http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=54973. Also most likely means the FX57 won;t be long either..
