    Help! ntoskrnl.exe corrupt

    Hi, i have got a dell d600 laptop, but today when i was switching it on i get this error:
    Disk I/O error: Status = 00008002
    Windows 2000 could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt:
    <windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    What shall i do? I am very unfamilar with dos and a step by step instruction would be helpful.

    One more thing, do notebook hard disks have same connectors as desktop. What i was thinking is if i connect it to a desktop pc:
    a) i can backup
    b) i can copy/paste staright away.

    No and no

    The easiest solution if you want to take the hdd out of the laptop is to put it in a usb case (making it a portable hdd) and plug that into another machine. Then you would be able to copy stuff off it very easily.
