Needed when you have a 7800GTX you want to run at 1600x1200 but dont have the spare £400 to buy the tft monitor because you spent £330 on the 7800GTX, plus its not like I dont have the desk space

Or when you just plain cant afford one.

Dont get me wrong, I could have a TFT, but when I buy one, I want the best of the best, so instead of spending £150 on some low end 17", I would rather wait a little longer and spend £350+ on a high end 19" TFT.

The viewsonic is faster, but I am not sure if its actually better. We were told that 16ms is fine and 12 is great. So I went for 8 4 is looking like a bit of an overkill, especially as it appears the slower monitors seem to have a higher quality picture.

As for 1280*1024 - I've been using 1024*768 on my 17" crt before that (even though it can go to 1600*1200). I was thinking about whether i should wait for 1600*1200 (didn't seem to be any tfts with this res in early september), but I decided that it would put less strain on my 9700pro to have it running at 1280*1024. If 1600*1200 didn't have to be the only resolution (as its native), it would be well worth waiting for, but if you get it you are stuck with it. And there is no point to watch a 1600*1200 slide show on a very expensive monitor

Aye indeed. Such a shame that my soundcard cannot output 5.1 via the optical cable.
Will soon be sorting that out with a new soundcard that does
