This one was taken a few months ago when I had an AX78/5000 Blackie as part of the fleet.
I also have an AW9 system and my niece has an IP35 E system that I built for her.

Finally had a chance to take some cleaner pics of my setup at the new flat!
Photomerge;
Larger version (1920*923, 692KB).
Equipment rack I snagged for free over the summer;
Inside the rack;
(I know virtually none of it is rackmount gear, but it's a handy place to store it all anyway!)
Left-hand-side;
Closer;
(Ignore the freebie mousemat, I hardly use the mouse)
(Also, yes, that's a USB-powered plasma ball!)
Right-hand-side;
At the heart of it all;
Because my monitor is a good 2ft deep & weighs 31Kg. If I put it on my desk, the front of the screen would be slap-bang up against my face & the table would proabbly collapse under the weight. If I had a nice large LCD then yes, I would have it straight ahead on my desk, but because I use a CRT I can't do that with my current furniture. If I had a stronger desk, I could pull it away from the wall & have the back of the monitor hanging over the back of the desk like I did in halls last year;
There the desk is a good 6" away from the wall, but even like that the front of the monitor was still too close. But that was a much stronger desk!
So I agree with you for a lot of people with LCDs at their sides, but when it comes to behemoth CRTs it's a compromise I have to make.
Sure, here you go.Originally Posted by staffsMike
I always used to have that problem with my massive old Dell CRT. Turns out having it off to the side gives you somewhere perfect to put your feet while watching telly
