    3700+ to x2 3800+

Hey, yup it's me with another flippin' thread again!

Hehe, anyway I'm foremost a 3d and 2d designer and also a gamer. I'm pretty certain the performance will be a fairly big jump for professional apps like 3ds max, maya, photoshop etc. and gaming will be about the same until there are more that support multiple cores/cpus.

What I'd most like to hear is experiences from people who've done the same, and is it worth the £80 or so I'd pay to upgrade.

    Thanks once again,

I'd say so with the things you do. Especially the professional apps.

    No more photoshop lag

As for gaiming, you'll get a mild increase on newer games, but like you said it wont be huge.

Wait a few weeks and you might be able to pick up a 4200+ or 4400+ for not too much more than you'd pay for a 3800+ now.

I'd wait for a month or two if you can. There should be some fairly big price cuts once the intel conroe is out.

And eBay will be flooded with second hand high end AMD chips from the upgrade-aholics

If I wait long enough though people will be throwing all sorts of nice stuff in the trash! Like those big clunky, power hungry LCDs or those mind-bogglingly slow Conroes or even that super-slow obselete DDR2 RAM in some measly amount like 4gb!

See what I mean? No time like the present!

Yeah but it's not even a month off and it's a guaranteed price cut. Very rarely can you be sure prices will drop but this is one of those special occasions. You'll most likely be able to buy the next chip up for what you pay for the X2 3800+ now = higher multiplier = more room for overclocking.

ASRock's aren't HTT beasts so you'll do better with a x10 or even x11 chip.

Well prices drops are about 2 weeks off, but then again, it's worth the extra money if you really want/need to upgrade. I'm just waiting to see what I can pick up for £250(ish) after the cuts.
