The problem with inches is that any time they're used, they go into fractions when dealing with precise measurements, which is a lot less natural than floating point numbers.. and then there's the "who's inches" factor, there are 2 versions of imperial measurements.. there's only 1 metric system.

You sure about that? Last time I checked, inches, feet, yards and miles were all the same. The differences are with volumes, i.e. gallons.

Actually, you're right there, they managed to standardise inches and yards in the late 50's (whoopty do):
Wikipedia: Conversion of units. Still, the fact remains that imperial units are an aging mess, and it just shows how easy it is for people to get muddled up when dealing with imperial. Metric is far superior by any means.

Floating point is a method for storing numbers on computers and nothing to do with how you write measurements.

Decimals aren't any better than fractions since decimals are a subset of fractions.

actually, fractions are a subset of division which produces decimals.. and the fact still remains that metric is 1 universal standard which works on powers of 10 and standard milli, c, K, M, G, T, etc. type unit prefixes.
Even with inches and yards having been standardised, imperial measurements are still inherently fragmented, it's just a big ball of mess, with litterly hundreds of different unit types cross referencing each other, most of which have different callibrations in different parts of the world. How is that anything that crap something to support?..

Ta, but I managed to get my Eheim 1250 working. Not sure I'm getting the best from it though, as my temps haven't really changed from using the Zalman pump, even though the flow rate is higher. Might need to go the 0.5" ID route, in which case I need to replace quite a bit - push connectors on the radiator, water block, tubing, to say nothing or ditching the Reserator and finding somewhere to shove a reservoir. I'm also only using a single radiator with one 120mm fan, which won't help as much.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

    Who said metric was bad?
An orthogonal system like the metric system makes things a lot easier to follow and is generally easier to use. That's becuase it's all base 10 though, not because fractions suck or it lacks precision. Besides which you can use fractions with metric and decimals with imperial units just fine; they're only numbers after all.

If anything fractions are more precise than decimals.
For instance: Divide a metre into 3 equal parts... with fractions it's easy to get an exact answer, with decimals impossible.

Yes but it's got a bizzare conversion to bigger units, imperial FTL.

Not impossible, it's 0.3 reoccuring, although I agree that fractions are somthimes easier than decimals, 1/3 is easier than 0.3333.... but when you've got a number like 232/7324 than a decimal is alot easier.

    0.33333... isn't really exact though.

Fittings etc - Most things come with fittings, if not you can get them from the link I gave you

    Preferably fittings for 1/2" tubing.

Anyone able to help me fill in the blanks? Idealy I'd like to spend under £175
Should come in at a tad over £175, most bits available over there but it will sort you out well, I know you can get most things second hand which will save you a few bob.

You can use a vinculum to express infinately recurring remainders in natural numbers.

I would think twice about using them. I'm still waiting for a response from them about a pump that was damaged in transit. OK, so it's only cosmetic damage really (and a broken impellor shaft that doesn't appear to stop things working) but they never responded to any emails after my initial sales inquiry.

    Cheers,
    Stephen
